In the begining
It all started on February 14, 1992, when Weezer first practiced together. The four guys who got together were Rivers Cuomo, Jason Cropper, Matt Sharp, and Pat Wilson. Although they didn't have much success at first, they continued writing music and playing local clubs. DGC Records [Geffen] signed Weezer 16 months later. The band moved to New York to record under producer Ric Ocasek. Jason left the band during the recording of Weezer to take care of his girlfriend, who was pregnant with their first child. Brian Bell replaced Jason.

Weezer's self-titled debut album was released on May 10, 1994, and was a hit from the start. The three singles that they released were: "Undone - The Sweater Song", "Buddy Holly", and "Say It Ain't So". Weezer went double-platinum in record sales. After touring the band took a break: Rivers started school at Harvard, Matt and Pat worked on a new band named the Rentals, and Brian resumed work with a former band of his, the Space Twins.

More recently
In 1995 and 1996, Weezer went to the studio again to produce an album themselves. On September 24th 1996, Weezer's second LP, Pinkerton, was released. It was quite the opposite of Weezer: the guitars are more gruff, the lyrics have a deeper meaning, and the band's talent and style had matured considerably. Pinkerton went gold in record sales.

In 1998, Matt left the band under good terms to go full time with his own project, the Rentals. Taking his place at bass was Mikey Welsch.

In 2001, after 5 years, Weezer has returned with their third LP. Self-titled, referred to as "The Green Album", it has released it's first single, "Hash Pipe", which went to #2 on Billboard's Modern Rock charts in only four weeks. Could this be their best album yet?
